The weather on Koh Samui and the surrounding islands can be particularly localized. This means on occasions we know it can be raining all day on one side of the island and sunshine on the other side. Koh Tao for example is approximately 70 km north, where weather conditions can be different to Koh Samui.

During the year, through the seasons, we typically see the prevailing wind direction steadily move around the island through 360 degrees from NW to SE.

Typically from April to October we have wind/wave direction swing round from the South West and West up to Samui’s North Coast:

– Taling Nam to Lipa Noi and Maenam coastlines

Then November to March we often have wind/wave direction coming to North East, East and Samui’s South Coast:

– Choeng Mon to Chaweng and Lamai coastlines

The Wet Season

During the wet season some of Samui beaches can be dangerous to swim at.

Please note: It is dangerous to swim in the water where you see the RED flag on the beach. When the red flag is seen, It is best to walk up the beach until you find the RED / YELLOW flags showing safe swimming zone patrolled by surf lifesavers.  When you see the red & yellow flag on the beach, this represents a safe swimming zone patrolled by surf lifesavers. ALWAYS swim between these flags.
